Como

On the old Regina road (today almost entirely walkable), designed by the Romans as a privileged way to the passes of the Alps, in order to trade with the Celts and which entirely runs along the lake, the city of Como, still retains the orthogonal design of the Roman military camp, with medieval walls well preserved, large doors and watchtowers (Porta Torre, Torre Gattoni, San Vitale). By the former “Casa del Fascio”, in Piazza del Popolo, a masterpiece by the rationalist architect Giuseppe Terragni, contiguous to the Rondinella, begins the city center. We are just steps from Piazza del Duomo, one of the largest cathedrals in northern Italy, adjacent to the Vicolo and the lakefront. The historic core still has traces of the Middle Ages, mixed with Renaissance and Neoclassical lines present between the narrow streets of the city center. To be seen are Piazza Volta and Piazza Mazzini, one close to another, with small restaurants and outdoor cafes, which introduce to a wide terrace on the lake, Piazza Cavour.

The Como Lake

The Lake of Como is able to enchant the tourists with many different needs: from those seeking social life to those looking for relaxation, from athletes to those prefer to laze around and be lulled by the Lario’S Dolce Vita. The mountains that surround it, sink into the lake. Lake and mountains are founded to create a unique environment, a corner of paradise that fascinates and enchants with its sights and irresistible scenery, its many treasures, such as villas and gardens that overlook its shores and the characteristic villages rich in history.

The surroundings

Starting from Brunate and the Monte Bisbino, where the trekking paths, with breathtaking views over the lake, begin, till to the Castel Baradello, that overlooks Como and it allows a magnificent view of almost the whole of Lombardy, to the villages on the lake (Bellagio, Menaggio, Cadenabbia, Varenna) , to the beautiful Lake’s villas (Balbianello, Villa Carlotta, Villa Plinian, Villa d'Este, Villa Erba, Villa Olmo), to other lakes (Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta) to the reachest monumental cities (Bergamo, Pavia, Lecco) and the great Milan, is a succession of possibilities to know a part of Italy among the most beautiful, outside the usual travels’ schemes.
